BIDEFORD ABC’s Ryan Gumbley kept up his winning ways with a third win in four weeks.

This time out he had to up his game against Sam Ingram from Cambourne, who he had lost against earlier in the season.

This time the bout took place at Combe Martin, with Bideford’s professional boxer Tommy Langford supporting in the corwd, and produced a very different result.

Gumbley worked the body well in the first round, but got caught while being backed up with straight punches as Ingram used his reach advantage.

In the second, Gumbley began to unleash combinations to head and body, with a high work rate constantly pushing the Cambourne boxer to the ropes.

It was all to play for in the last, but it was Gumbley who dug deep and gave everything, drawing Ingram into a war.

Gumbley had the better of the exchanges with speed and power, and he nearly took his opponent out with the last punch of the fight.

Ingram stayed on his feet, but it was Gumbley who took the fight on points.

Billy Stanbury had a rubber match with Dillyn Courtney of Cambourne on the same bill - the decider for the season - having beaten each other earlier in the year.

Stanbury started well, applying plenty of pressure and landing combinations.

In the second, Stanbury kept the pressure on but began to get caught with big hooks on the way out to level it up going into the last round.

Both boxers put it all on the line and both took big shots, ending the fight bruised and battered, but Courtney landed the cleaner shots to steal a tight fight on points.

Jacob Stevenson from Bideford had a skills contest with Callum Broadley of Combe Martin and the youngsters both showed potential with good hand speed and movement in a back-and-forth bout.

Although there is no ‘winner’ in skills bouts, both were congratulated for their competitiveness.
