The North Devon Display Gymnastics Centre in Bideford held a community day to celebrate the official opening of a new gymnastics sprung floor.
Devon County Councillor Alison Boyle donated £12,000 to fund the floor as part of the funding from the sale of Exeter Airport.
Cllr Boyle was welcomed by club chairman Charlie Moore, who expressed thanks on behalf of the gymnasts, parents and coaches, saying what a tremendous difference it would make to the safety and training of all the gymnasts.
After cutting the ceremonial ribbon, Cllr Boyle received flowers from junior gymnast Annie Poole and was inaugurated as an honorary member of the club by senior gymnast Alison Mower.
This was followed by demonstrations by club display teams.
The rest of the day was sponsored by Active Devon as part of their brief to offer the opportunity to the community to try out new sports. Fifty two children and some parents, who were new to the sport, had fun trying out the equipment and doing some gymnastics.
Younger children had their faces painted and everyone was presented with an Active Devon participation certificate and sticker.
