Fish have been queuing up to get on the bank at Stafford Moor fishery near Dolton recently.
Fine catches by anglers included 39 carp between Kelly and Jason Duff, who had fish up to 24lb 3oz while fishing from the spit on Lodge Lake.
Harry Collins aka ‘Haribo’ had nine fish up to 22lb 4oz from the inlet swim on Beattie’s, while Wilder Van Koutrik, aged nine, had a few fish out up to 15lb 4oz using squid wafter on the dam wall at Lodge.
Stuart Hutchings and brother Chris had 19 fish out in three days on ‘big fish corner’ and Tim Vick had 17 up to 26lb in 48 hours.
Bideford and District Angling Club’s midweek comp at its Tarka Swims water saw Keith Copland take first with 15lb 10oz.
Cavan Patterson was second and Rhys Eyles third but the match did not fish very well – several large carp were lost but Keith managed to land two fishing double red maggot near the lily pads.
The water level at Wistlandpound is now about two metres down from full and the fishery has been producing some fine fishing.
Rods have been averaging 11.5 fish per angler (on a catch and return basis), with one boat session bagging (and returning) 50 browns up to 1lb 8oz, with damsel nymphs, sedgehogs and weighted mini tadpoles all catching well.
Cameron Atkinson took first place in the Appledore Shipbuilders monthly rover with a specimen smoothound of 12lb 111/4oz.
David Langbridge was second with a lovely gilthead bream of 4lb 2oz and third was James Mayhew with a near-specimen smoothound of 9lb 7 1/2oz.
