Victory was finished by the backs, but made by the forwards, who fronted up to a meaty Devonport pack.

Henry Meredith broke the deadlock straightening up the line after some good work by the inside backs to score. Centres Scott Warren and Reece Hopkins made space for Meredith to run in a brace, which took a little pressure off the Barnstaple side.

Meredith repaid Hopkins with a lovely kick which the Devonport full-back misjudged and Hopkins pounced for a try.

Callum Sumners, busy fly-half Ben Vellacott and Warren combined to set up Hopkins for his second of the day.

With three minutes to go, scrum-half Callum Sumners sent Sam Roach over in the corner for 29-0 at half time.

Services had a strong rolling maul and pick-and-drive game, which they put to good use and powered over for three pack-based tries.

Barum came back with their own brand of rugby, putting the ball through the hands and Hopkins went over in the corner to bag a hat trick of tries.

In the last minute of the game Barum showed they to could maul when a 13-man shove put Michael Peak over for a try.

DEPLETED Bideford Colts pulled off a memorable 21-12 win at South Molton.

It was left to the 13 die-hard stalwarts of the team to take the battle to the Molton team, which had beaten them in the previous league round.

South Molton pressed hard with their formidable set of forwards, but Bideford stepped up their tackling, keeping the heavy forwards at bay.

Centre Sam Shuttleworth scored under the posts. Rob Dunn converted. Fly-half Dunn then intercepted in mid-pitch and dashed over for a try.

Thirteen-a-side became 12 for Bideford’s early in the second half when scrum-half Bill Teape was sent off. But Ashley Crouch crashed over for another Bideford try and Dunn converted. South Molton pulled back two tries in the time left.
