Saunton Jug: Thirty-eight golf clubs representing Cornwall, Devon, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire arrived at Saunton to compete for the annual Saunton Jug. The competition is a Betterball Stableford event with teams of four, whose combined handicaps must not exceed 46, and playing as a pair on each of the east and west courses. Last year the event finished in a four way tie, but this year the weather played a significant part, with the later starters benefitting from better conditions. Winners – 1, Clevedon, Somerset 84 pts; 2, Tidworth Garrison, Wiltshire 78; 3, Weston Super Mare , Somerset 77; 4, Bude, Cornwall 76. Best pair east course - J. Ford and T. Stewart, Chipping Sodbury 40 pts. Best pair west course - L. Wilkin and E. Dunn, West Wilts 42 pts.

Sheelagh Creasy: Joy was unconfined on the 18th hole at Tavistock where Holsworthy Ladies team got through to the semi-finals of this Devon County competition for the first time, beating a team from Royal North Devon. The successful team comprised Barbara Lake, Hillary Dorren, Angela Barton, Gwen Adams (capt), Lynda Perkins, Glenys Mead and Sylvia Caunter.

Lady Captain’s Fun Day 3BBB: 1, Barbara Abrams, Tania Wickham & Veronica Oke 78pts; 2, Lesley Richardson, Gwen Adams & Carol Wells 73; 3, Christine Beadle, Jean Dimbleby & Carol Rockey 71.

Juniors: Well done to Sam Keyte, 13, who won his age group at the Regional National Skills Challenge Final at the Kendleshire Golf Club, which tested junior golfers in putting, chipping, pitching, full swing and bunker play. He will now compete in the National Skill Challenge Final at Woodhall Spa at the end of August.

Veterans: Holsworthy had a pleasant home match against a team from Yelverton which they won 5&1, to gain a 6 ½ - 5 ½ aggregate victory. Jeff Paul & Mike Elkerton won 3&2, Allan Richardson & Albert Taylor halved, Bob Gelder & John Faithful won 1 up, Gordon Davison & Dick Webb halved, Chris Woolley & Mark Trayhorn won, Stephen Morrall & Ernie Buse won 4&3.

Veterans Alliance 3 Ball Open: Two teams from Holsworthy came in with best score of 87 points. Winning on countback were Alan Abrams. George Booth & Colin Davies, just ahead of Ray Holness, Des Best & Ken Watson. Third were Jeff Paul, Bob Gelder & Tony Tomassi 85pts.

Four Section Challenge: Twelve teams made up of a man, lady, vet and a junior took part, all scores to count. Winners – 1, Roger Perkins, Tim Kirkwood, Sue Watters and Jack Shepherd 138pts; 2, Chris Woolley, Andrew Cobner, Carole Baker and Andy Baker 138; joint 3, Richard Greenhalgh, Les Ellender, Gwen Adams and Sean Jacob and Brian Adams, Phil Heal, Lynda Perkins & J.
