Barry Paine’s side hold Newton Abbot spurs at Donnacroft

Torridgeside bounced back from last weekend’s defeat to Ilfracombe with a draw on Saturday.

T-Side drew 1-1 with Division One East leaders Newton Abbot Spurs at Donnacroft in one of just a handful of Carlsberg South West Peninsula League matches to be played at the weekend.

It was the visitors who opened the scoring when Adam Dyson headed home after 20 minutes.

Torridgeside got back on terms a few minutes later when Rob Holland’s shot on the turn was parried into the top corner.

Coach Barry Paine said: “It was a good response the Ilfracombe defeat and we’ve come away with a well-earned point, so we’re chuffed.

“We looked a lot fitter and quicker on Saturday. We changed the formation and put five in the midfield and three at the back to stop them from playing.

“We responded well after going 1-0 down and the shape was a lot better for us.”

Torridgeside are at home again on Saturday, with Liverton United visiting Donnacroft.

Appledore and Ilfracombe Town will both be hoping to be back in action after their fixtures were rained off last time out.

The Fishermen travel to Alphington, while Ilfracombe host University of Exeter.

In the Premier, Witheridge play Callington Town.

In Division One West, Holsworthy have a home game against Elburton Villa.
