Torridgeside have booked their place in the last four of the Throgmorton Devon Premier Cup.

Their quarter-final at Brixham survived the weather for the visitors to pick up a 3-0 win.

The last eight tie was T-Side’s first match in four weeks, and only their fourth game since November 18.

Kyle Paine gave them the lead after 15 minutes when he met a Marc Bettiss cross in the six yard box to tap in.

It would stay 1-0 until the hour mark, when Ross Middleton eventually doubled the visitors’ lead with a header.

Bettiss got the third goal 10 minutes later with a tidy finish at the near post from a Nathan Walter cross, and after that it was job done.

“I was amazed the game was on, but there you go,” said Torridgeside coach Barry Paine.

“It was a good team performance from start to finish.

“We had a great start to get 1-0 up at half-time, and we scored at critical times.

“The third goal killed them and after that we could relax and get the subs on. It was a proper, disciplined performance all round.

Torridgeside will meet either Plymstock or University of Exeter in the semi-final, with the tie to be played at a neutral venue on either March 7 or 14.

But for Paine, whoever they face is immaterial compared to their progress in the competition this year.

He said: “I think when it comes to the semi-finals it doesn’t matter who you get. Exeter are a tough team to beat, and we probably would have wanted to avoid them, but we would have to play them eventually.

“For us, it’s the furthest we’ve gone in this competition since we’ve been going and the players are relatively fit after a long lay off - it’s great.

“We still want to finish as high as possible in the league, but this is an opportunity to get to a major final.

“We need to get the league campaign going but we can rest and rotate when there are injuries around. It’s ideal for us to give others games and get as many players up to fitness before the semi-final.”

Torridgeside are due back in action in Division One East of the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League on Saturday, when they travel to Honiton Town.
