Appledore’s run-in is back on track in the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League.

The Fishermen bounced back from last weekend’s defeat to Stoke Gabriel with a 4-2 win over Bovey Tracey.

They had to come from behind twice before running out victors.

After going 1-0 down, Mark Cann headed in from a corner.

After conceding again, Jake England converted a penalty after Sam Stephens was fouled.

A volley from Brian Levien and another penalty from England ensured three points for Appledore after the break.

Goalkeeper Adam Bryant was sent off for Bovey with 15 minutes left.

The win leaves Appledore five points adrift from league leaders Brixham, but the Fishermen have three games in hand.

Manager Keith Shapland said: “We’ve got a lot to do and we’ve got a tough run-in.

“I’m not saying we can’t do it or will or won’t.

“But we’ve still got Stoke to play and they are beatable, but our focus is Galmpton on Saturday.”

Torridgeside suffered their fifth defeat in a row after being beaten 4-2 at home to St Martins on Saturday.

After recovering from a two-goal deficit to get back to 3-2, three red cards in five minutes obliterated their chances of completing a comeback.

Harry Stevens, Rory Paine and Nathan Knight were all shown red in quick succession in the second half.

“It was a disaster,” said manager Barry Paine.

“We didn’t play particularly brilliantly but we were spoiled by the referee – he lost the plot.

“We’re struggling a bit on the pitch. We’re conceding sloppy goals and not putting them in up at the other end.

“But three red cards in five minutes – I just wanted the whistle to go after that.”

Torridgeside will be looking to recover on Saturday when they host Budleigh Salterton.

In Division One West, Holsworthy got their first win in five with victory over bottom-of-the-league Vospers Oak Villa.

The Magpies were 2-1 winners at Upcott Field on Saturday.

They were also in action last night (Tuesday), with an evening fixture at Liskeard Athletic.

This Saturday, the Magpies travel to Illogan RBL.

In the Premier, Witheridge were beaten 3-1 at Camelford.

Luke Cole had put Withy back on level terms after going behind, but two unanswered goals sealed defeat.
