This weeks Carlsberg South West Peninsula League round-up

There were wins for Appledore, Torridgeside and Holsworthy in the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League on Saturday.

In Division One East, Appledore got their first win in five games with a 1-0 defeat of Liverton United.

Elliot Whitecross got the goal for the Fishermen, converting a one-on-one after being fed through by Jake England.

For coach Keith Shapland, it should have been more.

“We should have been out of sight after 20 minutes. We had chances but didn’t take them,” he said.

“What I will say is they never looked like scoring.

“I’m pleased with the result, just disappointed it wasn’t more, as it would have been a better reflection of the game.”

Shapland expects the same 11 to play in their game at fourth-placed Crediton United this evening (Tuesday).

On Saturday they welcome Sidmouth Town to Marshford.

Their opponents will be travelling up to North Devon for the second consecutive weekend, after being given a 5-0 thumping at Torridgeside last Saturday.

T-Side had the game done and dusted by half-time, with Marc Bettiss scoring a hat-trick before Ollie Kenneally netted twice – the latter being a penalty.

“5-0 up by half-time and we played some really good stuff. It was a decent performance, I’m really chuffed,” said manager Barry Paine.

“We moved the ball quickly into the right areas and didn’t give them a chance to settle in.

“Most of the goals were team goals, with four or five players, and that’s a positive for us.

“The lads deserve all the credit they can get, but it’s a long old season and we’ll take each game as it comes.”

Torridgeside travel to Brixham this weekend.

Ilfracombe were without a game on Saturday but will be back in action in Division One East this weekend when they host Bovey Tracey.

In Division One West, Holsworthy beat Mousehole 4-0 on Saturday.

A brace from Connor Nash and goals from Tudor Placinta and Adam Smith gave the Magpies their third win of the season.

They take on top-of-the-table Ludgvan on Saturday.

Witheridge picked up their first win of the season in the Premier on Wednesday, beating Exmouth Town 3-2.

They went 2-0 down after goals from Ace High and James Sharkey, but Roger Bonaparte’s side bounced back.

Alex Ansell pulled one back before Bonaparte got the equaliser. Tom Williams sealed the win for Withy.

Bonaparte’s side play Newquay on Saturday.
