This week’s Carlsberg South West Peninsula League round-up

Torridgeside picked up their first Carlsberg South West Peninsula League win in three games on Saturday in some style.

T-Side came away from their trip to Teignmouth 7-4 winners in Division One East after putting in a storming performance.

Ian Cockwill, Rory Paine and Harry Stevens had given Barry Paine’s side a 3-1 lead at half-time.

With Teignmouth committing men forward after half-time, the visitors were able to pick them off on the break.

Paine and Stevens both scored their second goals, and Marc Bettis and Ollie Kenneally also netted to give Torridgeside a 7-1 lead with 20 minutes remaining.

Teignmouth pulled three back in the final 20 minutes, but the visitors had already wrapped up their three points.

“It was a great performance,” said manager Paine.

“All the players were superb and I couldn’t ask for any more from them.

“It’s a difficult place to go. They try and pin you in and get two or three goals up and then they’re difficult to break down.

“We crafted a lot of chances and ended up taking them.

“It was just of those where you have to pinch yourself.”

It doesn’t get any easier for Torridgeside this weekend, as they welcome third-placed Bovey Tracey to Donnacroft.

Appledore made it three Division One East games unbeaten on Saturday with a 1-1 draw at Brixham.

The Fishermen were good value for a 1-0 lead at half-time. Ben Whitecross finished off a well-worked team move after Mark Thorne, Jake England and Joe Barker were all involved in the build-up.

An injury to England on the stroke of half-time meant a change of shape, and the hosts caught Appledore cold early in the second half to equalise.

Manager Keith Shapland said: “I would have taken a draw before the game, but as the first half went I thought we could or should have won it.

“We didn’t do quite enough in the second half to fully deserve it though.

“A draw is a positive result for us though.

“We’ve had a stop-start time of it, so hopefully we can get a bit of momentum leading up the Christmas period.”

The Fishermen travel to Axminster Town on Saturday.

Brixham meanwhile travel to Ilfracombe Town, who will be looking to bounce back from a 3-1 defeat to Newton Abbot Spurs on Saturday.

Liam Moseley and Adam Dyson gave Spurs a 2-0 lead at half time.

Brodie Montague pulled one back for Combe before Pete Eveleigh wrapped up the three points for the home side.
