THE pack is closing on Intermediate One leaders Northside Atlantic following a 2-1 defeat in their top-of-the-table clash with Ilfracombe 3rds.

Carl Armstrong put Northside in front early in the opening half and they remained in front at the break.

But 15 minutes into the second half Ollie Dept grabbed an equaliser and with 10 minutes to go Steve Burns lobbed the keeper for the winner for third-placed Ilfracombe.

Title favourites Fremington maintained their momentum, but had a long wait before overcoming a Northam Lions Reserves 2-0.

Frustrated by a stubborn Lions’ defence, their opening goal did not come until the 85th minute, through Wayne Parkhouse.

Missing for most of the match through work commitments, Andy King came on for the final 20 minutes and grabbed a second just minutes before the end.

Fremington are now only three points behind Northside with a massive seven games in hand, while Ilfracombe are just two points further back and have four games more to play than the leaders.

Woolacombe also retain an interest after a 2-0 win away to High Bickington with a 15th minute volley from outside of the box from Stuart Haynes and second from Jamie Duffield with just five minutes to go.

But Hartland gave Merton’s promotion hopes a knock with a 3-0 home win with goals by Jack Coleman, Steven Heard and Joe Dakin.

Wins have not been that plentiful for Clovelly, but then two came along in two days.

On Saturday they were 4-1 winners at home AFC Anchor with two goals from Simon Beebs and two from Rob Kearney, despite being reduced to 10 men when Beebs was sent off for a second yellow early in the second half.

Sunday brought a 1-0 win over High Bickington, thanks to a goal by Matt Naylor – and a trip to hospital for Rob Kearney, whose leg ballooned after a knock on the thigh, requiring two operations to relieve the pressure.

Equalizers were 4-0 winners at home to Woolsery Reserves.

Tony Philpotts opened the scoring with a 25 yard free kick and the second came just before half time when good link up play between the two strikers saw Ross Johnson set up Ben Taylor to slot his first for the club. Ross Johnson scored from the spot after being fouled in the box and Phil Norman scored the fourth.

Braunton 3rds were 3-2 winners away to Sporting Barum.
