North Devon Football League: League cups take centre stage

This week’s North Devon Football League round-up
League cups took centre stage across the North Devon Football League on Saturday.
Holders Park United beat Fremington 4-3 to progress to the next round.
A James Galliford header gave Fremmy a half-time lead.
Phillip Kelly pulled the visitors level with a long-range effort before Archie Christie put the home side back in front.
Unanswered goals from Tom Summers, a Ricky Marinaro penalty and Dave Brown put Park back in control before Christie pulled another back from the penalty spot.
Park will now meet Shamwickshire Rovers in the quarter-finals in a repeat of last season’s final.
Shammy beat Shebbear United 3-0 to book their place in the last eight, with Nathan Bate, James Bateman and Brian Levien getting the goals.
There was a local derby in the first round, with Torrington and Torridgeside Reserves meeting.
It was the Greens who came out on top, with a Nathan Delaune hat-trick giving the home side bragging rights.
The result sets up a quarter-final against Hartland Clovelly, who beat Landkey Town 5-3.
The Premier’s top two met in the first round, with North Molton coming out on top against Ilfracombe Town Reserves.
James Giffard, Cory Roach and Josh Stoneman scored for the Stags, with Dan Wright netting for the Bluebirds.
North Molton will play Boca Seniors in the next round, who strolled past Barnstaple FC.
Boca were 9-0 winners at Mill Road, with Danny Jenkins scoring a hat-trick.
Tom Marsh scored a brace, and Jamie Frickleton, Aaron Harper-Penman, Adam Copp and Claudio Pinto also netted.
Braunton beat Bideford CAFC 5-0 on Saturday to progress to the last eight.
Two goals from Dan Roberts put the home side on their way, with Adam Baxter and Tavis Fairlie also finding the net.
Combe Martin Cup
With last season’s winners Ilfracombe Town Reserves playing in the Premier this season, Ilfracombe Thirds will be looking to defend the title for the club.
They got off to a good start in the first round, beating Kilkhampton 5-1.
There were two goals for Ray Squire for the Bluebirds. Oscar Brown-Kingdom, James Harker and Connor McKechnie also found the net.
Connor Everitt scored for the home side.
Fremington Reserves were the big winners, beating Georgeham and Croyde 10-0.
Sam Phillips scored five goals in the win, and there were two each for Max Holding and Will Jones. Byron Saunders also netted.
Fremington will play Braunton Reserves in the quarter finals, with their opponents beating Northam Lions 6-1 at Burrough Farm to progress.
Appledore Reserves eased past Chivenor on Saturday to go into the last eight.
The Fishermen were 7-0 winners. Charlie Webb scored a hat-trick in the win and there were goals for Matt Fay, Ashton Donovan, Jake Parsons and Aaron Souster.
Appledore will meet Combe Martin in the last eight, who beat Putford 6-0 on Saturday.
Pilton Academicals will play High Bickington in the last eight.
Pilton beat Stratton United 2-1 to progress, with goals coming from Ben Paul and Kev Shaddick.
High Bickington beat Merton 3-2 in the other game played on Saturday.
Four Intermediate One teams made their way through to the quarter finals of the Arlington Cup.
South Molton were the big winners, beating Northam Lions 11-0 at home.
James O’Connor scored five goals in the win, and there were four for Tom Roode. James Wilson and Ryan Smith also netted.
Holsworthy Reserves and Braunton Thirds also progressed, with both winning 4-2 away from home.
Goals from Olti Arriku (2), Bradley Birch and Dragos Placinta took the Magpies through. Robert Scoines scored twice for Haxton.
Braunton beat Appledore Lions to progress.
A Ben Fisher-Anderson goal gave Hartland Clovelly Reserves a 1-0 win over North Molton Reserves.
Bill Smale Cup
The first round of Bill Smale Cup matches saw four Intermediate Two teams reach the last eight.
Braunton Fourths were the big winners, beating Eastside 6-0 with goals coming from Matthew Colebeck (2), Daniel Nott (2), Callum Mustard and Adam White.
Two goals from Matthew Ogden helped Combe Martin Reserves to a 5-0 win over Ashwater. Ben Brocklehurst, Levi Huxtable and Sean Richards also scored.
Goals from Josh Braddick and Ewan Shaddick gave Park Rangers a 2-0 win at Torridgeside Thirds.
Bridgerule Reserves beat Appledore Thirds 3-2.
