Leading trio maintain their all-win records

17:20 11 September 2012

REIGNING champions Boca Seniors are back in control at the top of the North Devon Gazette Football League, but only on goal difference.

They and old adversaries North Molton have both kicked off their seasons with five wins in a row. So, too, have Premier new boys Bideford Reserves, who are carrying on their winning ways of 28 games unbeaten in the Senior Division last term.

Boca maintained their momentum with a 5-0 result at home to Appledore Reserves with goals by Mark Gilfillan (2), Mark Barrow, Giles Daniel and Scott Sharp.

North Molton were involved in a goalfest at Dolton, coming through 7-3. They started brightly and punished Dolton defensive mistakes to go 2-0 up within 10 minutes thanks to Greg Holland and Jamie Gifford, but were pulled back to 2-2 as Rob Knight and Tom Robinson hit back for Dolton. Molton then moved up a gear, Holland adding three more goals and others coming from Liam Craze and Tom Marsh, with Dolton only able to convert one of their chances through substitute Dan Stubbins.

Bideford were on the road for the fourth time in five games and kept another clean sheet with a 6-0 win away to Shebbear.

With regulars missing, it was an opportunity for some of Bideford’s squad players and one of them, Jake England, seized the opportunity with both hands, scoring twice in the opening 10 minutes and going on to complete his hat-trick. England grabbed his first with a fine volley and adding a second when he latched on to a through ball and coolly side-footed it home. Leading 2-0 at the break, Philip Kelly made it 3-0 early in the second half and Bideford doubled their lead in the final 20 minutes as England completing his hat-trick and Aaron Stevens rounded off with two in quick succession.

Torridgeside also maintained their unbeaten record after four games with a 4-0 win away to Shamwickshire Rovers.

Shammy applied early pressure, but after weathering the storm Torridgeside moved ahead with a goal by Jamie Bright on 25 minutes and with Neil Bettis winning everything in the air at the back and brother Marc running riot up front they stretched their lead with two more goals before half-time by Marc Bettis and Rob Holland. Shammy missed a penalty after the break, before Ian Cockwill completed the scoring with 15 minutes to go.

Braunton won 2-0 away to Ilfracombe Reserves, although they had to wait 65 minutes for their opening goal. Callum Norman applied the last touch to a headed effort by Sam Box and Box added the second 10 minutes later.

Chittlehampton had enough early chances to have gone 4-0 up at home to Barnstaple Ammies, instead of which they were found wanting in height and went 2-0 behind from corners. A penalty from Ciaron Lishman and an own goal brought them back to 2-2 at the break and from then on it was one way traffic. Lishman added a second penalty and two more goals and Jordan Hussell hit another for a 6-2 win.

Midweek results: Bideford Reserves 4, Braunton 0; Chittlehampton 0, North Molton 2; Ilfracombe Reserves 3, Georgeham and Croyde 0; Shamwickshire Rovers 1, Boca Seniors 6; Appledore Reserves 0, Torridgeside 3; Bradworthy 2, Putford 2.
