Barnstaple Town 0-1 Chippenham Park
BARNSTAPLE Town’s eight match unbeaten run came to an end on Saturday as a late goal gave Chippenham Park victory at Mill Road.
Town were denied by a 92nd minute Shane Blackmore header in a keenly contested game which the home side will feel they easily could have won.
Barnstaple were on top in the first half, but unable to create any clear-cut chances until Ross Jones rattled the crossbar with a powerful drive.
Aaron Harper-Penman came close in the second half, but saw his goal-bound header scrambled clear off the line.
Town continued to apply pressure, with Ryan Turner going close and Jed Harper-Penman firing a chance over in the later stages.
Just as it looked like the game would finish goalless, the home side’s defence switched off from a stoppage time corner and allowed Shane Blackmore a free header, which he duly took advantage of.
Despite the disappointing defeat, Barnstaple remain in the thick of the play-off place hunt in sixth with a handful of games in hand on the four sides directly above them.
They go to Warminster Town on Wednesday night, before a trip to Roman Glass St George on Saturday.
