Late equaliser takes shine of Pearse screamer for Barnstaple

Barnstaple Town 1-1 Cribbs
A STUNNING goal from Dave Pearse was not quite enough to secure three points for Barnstaple Town after a lat equaliser from visitors Cribbs.
Two of the Toolstation Western League First division’s in-form sides cancelled each other out for large periods of the game, with Billy Tucker looking dangerous for Town in the opening stages and twice going close in the first half.
Barnstaple continued to enjoy good possession and put the Cribbs goal under pressure, but could not find a way through as the sides went in level at the break.
Barnstaple then came close again from a Tucker free-kick, before Cribbs created a couple of decent openings of their own which saw some last-ditch defending from the home side.
The deadlock was eventually broken in spectacular fashion when, with ten minutes left on the clock, Dave Pearse was able to swivel and smash home a top-drawer finish from distance.
Town continued to press, until Thorne rushed out to give away a free-kick to the visitors in the final seconds of the game.
Cribbs, who sit five points above Town in fourth, scored from the resulting free-kick to come away with an unlikely point.
Although disappointing for Barnstaple, the draw extended their unbeaten run to six games and leaves them a single point behind fifth-placed Almondsbury UWE – with four games in hand.
Barnstaple travel to 12th placed Ashton and Backwell United on Saturday.
