Barnstaple and Ilfracombe Ladies fought out a 3-3 local derby stalemate in Division One of the Westward Developments Devon Football League.

Barnstaple welcomed this season’s high flyers Ilfracombe at Tews lane and the first half was a typical derby game, full of passion and fight.

Making her return from injury, Ilfracombe’s Kelly Coates punished Barnstaple for an uncleared corner to put her side in front.

Combe continued to apply pressure and scored a deserved second goal with a perfect lob from Sarah Dennis and Barnstaple had to soak up more pressure up to half time.

Barnstaple still looked a threat on the counter attack and turned the tables in the second half, with several good opportunities to reduce the score line.

But Ilfracombe broke away again and Coates shot them into a 3-0 lead.

Barnstaple heads did not drop, however, and as the Combe defence tired, they pummelled the Ilfracombe goal, being rewarded when Molly Jones’ 25 yard looping shot found the net. Ten minutes later Ria Penfold hit a low drive from 20 yards into the bottom corner and with five minutes to go she was on target again to snatch a draw.
