Ilfracombe took a beating from the Tigers, after initially looking in complete control of the South West Peninsula League Division One East game at Marlborough Park.

Ilfracombe were left scratching heads and licking wounds after letting slip a 3-1 lead at home to Axminster Town on Saturday.

With an hour on the clock, the Bluebirds looked in complete control of the South West Peninsula League Division One East game at Marlborough Park.

Cassian Blackmore and Brady Sanders had added to an Axminster own goal in the first minute.

Gary Spiller had made it 2-1 before the break. But at 3-1, Ilfracombe looked in complete control and had a number of chance to put the game beyond their opponents, Simon Townsend going closest with a one-on-one with the keeper that fizzed agonisingly wide of the post.

And so the Tigers hit back in dramatic fashion, claiming a second North Devon scalp in consecutive weeks, having beaten Appledore 2-0 the week before.

Jamie Barfoot made it 3-2 from close range on 61 minutes and Nathan Warren scored from similar distance to level the scores with 13 minutes to play.

The visitors landed the killer blow with three minutes left on the clock, Sam Dibling robbing the ball off Will Berry on the edge of the ’Combe penalty area and rifling the winner into the top corner from 20 yards.

“We’d have been disappointed to draw let alone lose,” said Ilfracombe coach Kevin Weir.

Ilfracombe will have nine players missing when they travel to Brixham in the fourth round of the Devon Premier Cup on Saturday.

They will be hoping for a repeat of the 2-1 league win at Marlborough Park earlier this month.
