Fremington and Combe Martin crept further ahead of the pack as they maintained their 100 per cent records with seventh and fifth wins respectively.

Fremington were a goal up in the opening minute away to Braunton Reserves when Andy King headed home from a set piece. Braunton twice hit the crossbar before pulling back an equaliser when Fremington failed to clear effectively and the ball bounced right into the path of an oncoming striker. But right on half-time a good run and cross from Mark Sanders saw Brian Crompton head home at the far post for a 2-1 interval lead.

Sanders got behind the defence again for another cross which Josh Hooper headed home and the pair then changed roles, with Hooper crossing from the opposite side and Sanders knocking in the fourth.

Combe Martin went 3-0 up at home to North Molton Reserves, but just failed to keep a clean sheet as Molton pulled one back with a late penalty.

Nick Copeland hit Combe’s first after 24 minutes and Carl Power lobbed the keeper for a second on 40 minutes. Fifteen minutes into the second half Simon Townsend’s shot hit the bar, the keeper and rebounded into the net for the third. Despite Combe’s lead there was not a lot in it as both sides saw chances hitting the woodwork before James Campbell netted from the spot for Molton.

There were chances for both sides in the South Molton versus Pilton encounter, but only one goal. Both keepers pulled off some great saves, but Daniel Lane managed to get one in the net for South Molton in the first half and that is how the scoreline remained.

Park United were punished for a poor display at home to Northam Lions and left it late to grab a point with a 1-1 draw.

Lions opened the scoring on 10 minutes with a goal by Callum Bowden and looked the more hungry of the two teams before second half substitutions livened Park up and midfielder Matt Lewis grabbed the equaliser five minutes from the end.

Still smarting from a decision to deduct points and fine them for failing to raise a side for their midweek fixture against Fremington, Lynton and Lynmouth had further disappointment on Saturday with a 4-2 reverse at home to Merton.

Merton took the lead in a ding-dong start when a sloppy throw-in lost Lynton possession and a long ball over the top caught their defence square, enabling Craig McConnchie to lob the keeper. Max Smith headed an equaliser, only for Merton to go in front again through James Ashton. But Lynton came back again with a second Smith equaliser. Indecision at the back let Nathan Delaune through to put Merton 3-2 up at the break and Lynton offered little further threat in the second half as Tom Parish finished off the scoring for Merton.

Torrington maintained their form with a a 3-0 result at home to Bude.

Midweek results: Ashwater 3, Bude 1; Merton 1, Torrington 3; Northam Lions 3, Woolsery 5; Park Utd 4, Shamwickshire Res 3; South Molton 3, North Molton Res 3; Braunton Res 2, Pilton 0.
