Barnstaple 4-3 Oldland Abbotonians
Barnstaple Town were made to sweat as they picked up a memorable 4-3 victory against struggling Oldland Abbotonians as tempers flared at Mill Road on Saturday.
Four players saw red as a brawl broke out towards the end of the game, with a strong protest from an Oldland player leading to three of the away side’s players being given their marching orders. Town ‘keeper Ryan Draper was also sent off in the incident.
Earlier on, the home side went in front in a topsy-turvy match through an Aaron Harper-Penman goal, before being pegged back just before half time by a Thomas Smallman strike.
And it was the visitors who went in front early in the second period, as Thomas Shopland found the mark to worry the home side.
Billy Tucker converted a penalty to put Barnstaple back on level terms, but the hosts were behind again when they let in an own goal.
Jack Jenkins equalised for Barnstaple to make it 3-3 and set up a thrilling finale, which saw the referee point to the penalty spot for a second time in the 91st minute, sparking protests from the visiting players.
Tucker held his nerve, though, to score his 20th of the season and make sure that Barnstaple recorded a vital three points.
They travel to Almondsbury UWE on Saturday.
