Five on the trot for Fremington

Fremington’S step up into Senior Division football continued in spectacular style, with two more wins and two more clean sheets.

It brings the Senior Division debutants to five wins in a row.

A midweek clash with fellow contenders Park United was a close affair, but it was Fremington who won through 2-0 with goals by Andy King and Wayne Parkhouse.

On Saturday the divisional leaders started sluggishly at home to Merton before a through ball found Wayne Parkhouse in the right place to take just one touch and knock it home.

Twice front runner Simon Larcombe was brought down. Ryan Crompton’s penalty attempt was missed, but a second by Mark Sanders found the net. Larcombe then added a goal of his own for a 3-0 win.

Combe Martin also continued their unbeaten start with a 5-0 win away to Lynton and Lynmouth, which keeps them in second place. Simon Townsend struck twice - his first a spectacular 30-yarder into the top corner – and Carl Power grabbed a hat-trick, all with his head.

Park put the midweek setback behind them to run out 4-0 winners away to Woolsery on Saturday and maintain third place.

Kevin Buck opened the scoring by pouncing on a rebound and Park then hit the bar twice. Stephen Skinner put them 2-0 up at half-time. The second half started with Park again hitting the woodwork before Skinner struck his second and Buck bundled the ball over with his torso for the fourth.

Torrington strike back

Torrington took time to warm up in both their games, but came back strongly each time for impressive wins.

Midweek they beat Ashwater 8-2 with goals by Kai Dymond (4), Danny Jenkins, Malcolm Stewart, George Bartlett and an own goal.

On Saturday they twice fell behind away to Northam Lions and were 2-1 down at the break, before a battling second half saw they win 5-2.

Tom Hawkes and Ben Brend hit the Lions’ goals, with Torrington’s coming from Danny Jenkins (3), Kai Dymond and Matthew Brice.

Two tough games for Shamwickshire Reserves brought a 3-2 midweek win away to Merton with goals by Charlie Harding (2) and Seam Winfield, but a 2-1 reverse away to Braunton Reserves on Saturday.

A free kick and a penalty gave Braunton a 2-0 lead through Ryan Hawkes and Steve Burley, before Adam Halling pulled a goal back for Shammy in the closing stages.

After losing 3-2 midweek to Pilton Academicals, North Molton Reserves made a shaky start at home to Ashwater on Saturday, their normally solid defence caught square at the back and failing to clear their line as they went 1-0 behind and only a saved penalty stopped them going further behind before half-time.

A Matt Coombes header put Molton back on terms early in the second half and the remainder of the game saw end to end play, with Tyson Chugg finally putting Molton in front with five minutes to go, only for Ashwater to grab a late equaliser for a 2-2 result.
