FREMINGTON took the honours in the weekend’s North Devon League programme with a resounding Senior Division win against a North Molton Reserves side studded with first team players.

Without a match of their own, players from Molton’s unbeaten Premier Division side bolstered the reserves.

But Fremington, who are one of the main contenders for promotion into the Premier Division next season, met the challenge in style with a 5-0 win.

It was their best display since the club was reformed, said delighted manager John Thompson.

Without their regular keeper, Thompson himself filled in between the sticks, while Molton were in a similar position and reserves manager Paul White, 45, took over for them.

White blamed himself for two of the goals, but conceded that Fremington were a ‘really good side.’

Molton started slowly and were 2-0 down within 10 minutes as Mark Sanders and Ryan Crompton both netted.

By half-time it was 5-0 as Sanders stormed in with another three, including one from the spot.

Molton gave a better second half performance, hitting the post and the crossbar, but a nine match run without a goal was continued.

In the only other Senior Division game played, leaders Torrington also notched up a 5-0 win away to Lynton and Lynmouth.

For 25 minutes there was nothing to choose between the sides on a heavy pitch.

But Arlo Reddick’s opener was followed by another from Danny Jenkins for a 2-0 half-time lead and Torrington enjoyed a more comfortable second half, rewarded with a hat-trick from Kai Dymond.

Premier Division

Premier champions Boca Seniors issued another warning to thosee above them as they moved up to fourth with a 9-1 drubbing of Barnstaple AAC.

It took 40 minutes to break down a determined Ammies defence, but then the floodgates opened with goals by Matt Deakin (2), Mark Barrow (3), Mark Gilfillan (2), Lewis Ovey and Sid Giles.

After falling well behind with games played, Boca are slowly making up the gap and creeping ever closer to the leaders. But they still have a busier programme than most to complete and despite an extension to the season due to the bad weather, the next few weeks could be decisive.

“They are all good teams in this division and we must give them respect,” said chairman Brian Fishleigh. “We need to win every game. It all depends on the next month, including games against Braunton this weekend and Torridgeside next.

Third placed Braunton are also on form, adding a 3-0 win at home to Bradworthy on Saturday.

Steve Burley hit a post and had a ‘goal’ disallowed before James Galliford opened the Braunton account.

Sam Box made it 2-0 and a fine save by Jamie Matthews maintained the lead at a potential turning point when Bradworthy pressed either side of the break. Box struck again in the second half to ensure the win.

Ilfracombe Reserves came through 1-0 in a tough tussle in the mud with Putford, the only goal coming midway through the opening half when Pete Gammon went up for a header from a corner and the ball deflected in off him and a defender.

Georgeham and Croyde gained a welcome third win of the season with a 2-1 result away to Shamwickshire Rovers. Despite having the better of the opening half Shammy missed their chances and went 1-0 down at the break to a Tim Scott goal. A goalmouth melee resulted in Georgeham’s second before Mark Jury pulled one back for Shammy with 20 minutes remaining.

Intermediate One

Barnstaple FC go back to the top of Intermediate One following a 6-2 win away to Northam Lions.

Connor Nash and Sam phillips, both back from spells with Barnstaple Town, scored a brace of goals each and others came from Tom Nash and an own goal.

Trailing 3-0 at half-time, the Lions came back with two in five minutes from Alex Charlton and Ali Bright just after the break before Barnstaple pulled away again.

Torridgeside maintained their challenge with a 6-3 win at home to Clovelly, including a hat-trick by Jethro Kimber. But they had to come from behind after Clovelly took a 3-1 half-time lead with goals by Nick brazier (2) and Simon Reid.

Hartland were 3-0 winners at home to High Bickington with goals by Adam Symons, Richard Davey and Jack Coleman.

Intermediate Two

Surprise result in Intermediate Two was the 1-1 draw for lowly Woolsery Reserves away to leaders Putford Reserves. Mike Merrick gave Putford an early lead, but they missed a chance to go 2-0 ahead and were punished when Jamie Robertson hit the equaliser with five minutes to go.

Fremington Reserves scored all the goals in a 5-1 win at home to Buckland Brewer. Josh Hooper hit a hat-trick, there were other goals by Russell Ovey and Melvin Lyle and a deflected own goal from Andrew Blanch.
