Football Foundation grant for reserve team paves the way for big future plans

NORTH Devon Gazette Football League side Clovelly are enjoying exciting times, with a Football Foundation grant paving the way for future projects.

Clovelly will field a reserve team in the league next season, and have been rewarded with a ‘grow the game’ grant from the Football Foundation for £1,500 to help with their plans. Thanks to MJM Sports in Bideford, training tops, tracksuit tops and tracksuit bottoms are being provided to all new players as part of their club signing-on fee.

Both the first team and reserves will be working together as one large squad throughout the season with both the match day kit and training kit being the same, encouraging the club ethic and so that everybody works together towards the same goals.

Lee Evans will take over as first team manager for the 2014/15 season, with the reserve post still open. If interested, contact Lee on 07858 684985 for further details.

Training is being held at 6.30pm on Wednesday evenings at Victoria Park with anybody welcome.

The club also has plans to rebuild the ‘grandstand’ after all of the committees in the parish of Clovelly kindly contributed towards a ‘Royston Johns Memorial Fund’ to build something as a lasting memorial to one of the club’s greatest servants.

Saturday, August 2 marks this year’s annual ‘Royston Johns Memorial Match’, where a squad managed by Royston’s son, club president Edward Johns, is pieced together to give the current squad a pre-season workout.

There will be various fund-raising events during the afternoon with all welcome to come and enjoy a family day out, culminating in a barbeque and refreshments in the social club afterwards.
