Combe’s league and cup success

16:22 20 February 2013

COMBE Martin celebrated a tremendous weekend which saw them 13-0 winners at home to South Molton and 2-0 winners after extra time against divisional leaders Fremington in the Braunton Cup next day.

They were 3-0 up within 10 minutes and 7-0 ahead by half-time on Saturday, but still had periods when they were made to work by lowly South Molton, who made things more difficult by missing chances of their own and being reduced to 10 men with a controversial 80th minute sending off.

Peter Varley hit four, Simon Townsend three, Paul Rayner two and Richard Watkins, Joe Seldon, Cassian Blackmore and substitute Keifer Sutton (pen) one each.

Goals did not look like coming in the Braunton Cup match as the two teams battled hard in difficult conditions, but cancelled each other out

Fremington came on strong playing downhill in the second period, but still goals did not come.

Richard Watkins finally broke the stalemate with a header from a corner three minutes into extra time and as Fremington pushed up in search of an equaliser, Nick Copeland put the icing on the cake with a second in the final two minutes.

Parkhouse hat-trick

Fremington remain at the top of the table, however, following a 6-0 win over Bude on Saturday.

They played good football from the outset, but only a Wayne Parkhouse goal separated them at half-time.

Parkhouse floated in a second after the break and Bude missed a penalty before the Cornishmen lost their keeper when he was red carded for bringing down striker Andy King.

Mark Sanders made it 3-0 from the spot, Parkhouse then completed his hat-trick, Sanders netted his second spotkick after Simon Larcombe was brought down and Matt Ford completed the scoring.

Woolsery were 5-0 winners away to North Molton Reserves with goals by James Arbuthnott (2), Jack Smallridge, Josh Johnson and Ashley Glover.

After taking an early lead they had to soak up 20 minutes of Molton pressure before pushing 4-0 ahead by half-time.

Merton had a goal in each half to thanks for a 2-0 result away to Northam Lions.

Nathan Delaune struck the first and George Nancekivell the second.

Braunton Reserves were 5-1 winners away to Pilton Academicals with goals by Sam McCreedy (2), Lee Eate, Tom Hunnibell and Ben Whitecross while Lynton and Lynmouth had a 3-1 win away to Shamwickshire Rovers Reserves.
