THREE of the top four teams were in action at the weekend, all closing the gap on Premier Division leaders Bideford Reserves, who were without a game.

Torridgeside and North Molton both maintained their unbeaten Premier Division records as they inched closer with further wins.

Torridgeside wasted no time in gaining their 10th win in 12 games, scoring after just one minute at home to Dolton and going on to a 4-0 victory.

Ian Cockwill headed home the first at the back post from a corner.

Dolton had their share of the ball, but failed to threaten and Martin Boundy - taking over the striker role from injured Marc Bettis - made it 2-0 just before half-time.

Ten minutes into the second half Jamie Bright was first to a ball which bobbled in the box and knocked it home from six yards.

With 20 minutes remaining, good play in the middle of the park ended with a pass from Cockwill for Kyle Paine to net number four.

North Molton ran out 6-1 winners at home to Shebbear United.

After a long lay-off , the Molton players ran out like stags, only to see an opening ‘goal’ disallowed.

But Greg Holland was on hand to put them in front midway through the first half and he doubled their lead from the penalty spot just before the break. Early in the second half and Holland found space again to complete his hat-trick.

Then it was Tom Marsh’s turn. First with another successful spotkick to make it 4-0 and, after Shebbear pulled one back, he netted two more goals to complete his hat-trick and stretch the Molton lead.

Although the goals had come from two hat-trick men, this was a good team performance and they had created chances all around the park, said manager Mark Kersey.

Meanwhile, champions Boca have remained out of the immediate limelight, with the weather and cup commitments meaning fewer league matches played.

But they, too, are creeping closer, although they were made to work hard for their 1-0 win away to Barnstaple Ammies at the weekend.

There was no doubt that Boca enjoyed most of the possession, but Ammies worked hard in defence and made themselves a difficult side to beat. It was not until the 85th minute that Mark Barrow found a way through for the goal that denied Ammies a share of the points.
