This week’s North Devon gazette Football League round-up

The North Devon Gazette Football League’s fixture list was decimated again this week as the wet weather continues to get the better of many of North Devon’s pitches.

But Braunton’s spirits were not to be dampened, as they made the most of their game at Bideford Reserves surviving by coming away with an emphatic 4-0 win.

Braunton have been impressive all season, but this performance helped to maintain pressure on the peerless Boca Seniors – Braunton are now just two points off the unbeaten leaders, who they should have played last week.

When the weather permits, their re-arranged fixture should go a long way towards deciding the destination of this season’s Premier division crown.

Appledore Reserves were involved n a third consecutive 1-1 draw in the Premier division’s only other surviving fixture, as they picked up a point at Ilfracombe Reserves.

Cassian Blackmore got Combe’s goal to again deny Appledore a win. Despite a recent upturn in their form, Appledore remain in the lower reaches of the league.

Five Premier division fixtures were postponed on Saturday, including Boca’s trip to defending champions Torridgeside.

All seven games in the Senior division were called off over the weekend, while only one game went ahead in Intermediate One.

Clovelly leapt from the foot of the table in emphatic fashion, beating fellow strugglers Northam Lions Reserves 6-0.

Clovelly came into the game having only won twice all season, but will feel much better about their chances of staying up after a big win, which lifts them to 12th in the table, level on points with Northam.

Two own goals helped South Molton Reserves to pull off a convincing win over Merton Reserves in the only game to survive in Intermediate Two.

The wind made things difficult for both sides, who have not had the best of seasons so far, but Ashley Short managed to battle through to give Molton the lead in the 20th minute.

The own goals went in either side of half-time to help Molton to an unassailable 3-0 lead, before substitute Jeff Henry scored within five minutes of entering the contest to complete the rout and move his side 12th in Intermediate Two.
