This week’s North Devon Gazette Football League review
Boca Seniors opened up a four-point gap at the top of the North Devon Gazette Football League by beating nearest challengers Braunton 2-1 on Saturday.
Boca recorded a 14th win out of 14 after the match – one of just three to survive in the entire North Devon League after Friday’s deluge – was moved to Lobb field.
The much-anticipated game between the league’s two stand-out teams this season did not disappoint, and proved to be very tightly contested.
Joe Seldon got Braunton’s goal, but strikes from Matthew Deakin and Ciaron Lishman, who have netted 29 between them this term, were enough for the league leaders to give themselves breathing space for the first time this season.
Braunton will be looking to bounce back from their first defeat of the season when they travel to North Molton SC on Saturday, while Boca Seniors are at Appledore Reserves.
None of the scheduled games went ahead in the Senior division or in Intermediate One, but there were two games played in Intermediate Two.
Putford Reserves picked up a fifth win of the season at Braunton Fourths, courtesy of a goal from Sean Freeman and an own goal.
The 2-0 victory moves Putford up into ninth, ahead of a trip to Anchor Chiefs Reserves this weekend.
Braunton Fourths, meanwhile, have the perfect opportunity to bounce back from the defeat when they travel to bottom club Merton Reserves.
Georgeham and Croyde Reserves also took advantage of the teams around them not playing by beating North Molton Thirds by two goals to one to jump into eighth place.
It was a disappointing result for North Molton, who stay top of the division by three points, but who have also played four games more than second placed Haxton Rangers.
North Molton also have a difficult game lined up this weekend, as they host fifth-placed Fremington Reserves.
Georgeham will hope to build on their best result of the season so far when they face Woolsery Reserves on Saturday.
