Robins come from 2-0 down to take a point against West Midlands high-fliers.

BIDEFORD came from two goals down in the first five minutes to earn a deserved point against Stourbridge in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division on Saturday.

The third-placed side looked to set to dish out some harsh footballing lessons before an unappreciative crowd of more than 200 at the Sports Ground.

But despite the early scare, the Robins kept their cool and very nearly came out on top against the West Midlands visitors.

Ben Billingham fired the Glassboys in-front with just 22 seconds on the clock and Drew Canavan added a second after capitalising on a poor back pass five minutes later.

Bideford pulled a goal back after 10 minutes through Sean Downing as the hosts settled into what was shaping up to be a classic league encounter.

Truro City striker Andy Watkins had a hand in Bideford’s opening goal and he and Downing continued to look dangerous as the half wore on.

On 60 minutes, Kevin Squire restored parity when he swivelled on the edge of the box to hit an instinctive volley past visiting goalkeeper Lewis Solly.

Bideford looked like the side most likely to find a winner and Downing was unlucky to do so after a twisting run was thwarted by Solly.

Watkins also had a strike well-saved by the visiting shot-stopper as Stourbridge clung on for a point.

The result leaves Bideford second from the foot of the table on eight points from a possible 30, although wins this week could give the North Devon side a welcome chance to escape the bottom three.

On Saturday, Bideford travel to Bashley while on Tuesday night they visit Arlesey Town.
