Robins unbeaten in three but face tough league and cup away trips this week.

BIDEFORD claimed their second win in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division with a 3-2 victory against Redditch United at the Sports Ground on Saturday.

The Robins extended their league run to three without defeat and hit the ground running with an Ellis Laight shot that was saved by visiting keeper Niall Cooper after just two minutes.

Redditch only had one serious attempt on the Bideford goal in the first half, William Richards’ shot well saved by Sam Hutchings.

At the other end, Cooper saved well from Bideford captain Matt Hockley, and both Matt Andrew and Isaac Vassell shot wide.

The second half had barely started when James Richards and Sean Downing combined to give the 177-strong gate something to shout about.

Richards crossed an inch perfect ball for Downing to slot home from close range.

Andrew then doubled the lead on the hour after Downing slid a well-timed ball into his path, inviting him to slip it under Cooper.

A Connor Deards tap-in provided the Reds a lifeline with 12 minutes to go but after failing to pull one back in the closing minutes, Steve Orchard then started the move of the match.

Making a run down the left flank, Orchard passed inside to Andrew who beat two defenders and laid the ball into the path of Ian Sampson, who had run the length of the pitch to shoot across the body of Cooper to make it 3-1.

The Worcestershire side pulled a second back through Mark Danks in stoppage time but Bideford held out for an important win.

Bideford travelled to AFC Totton last night (Tues). On Saturday, they visit Gosport Borough in the FA Cup second qualifying round. On Tuesday, they go to Wimborne Town in the league.
