Bideford left it late to spring into life against Slimbridge this afternoon (Saturday) before picking up their fourth consecutive win.

The Robins eventually ran out 3-1 winners at the Sports Ground to move up to fifth in Evo-Stik League South West.

The home side were listless for the first 70 minutes. Joe Wilton’s deflected shot had given Slimbridge the lead in the first minute and for much of the game the Robins didn’t look like they were going to change it.

Ryan Turner’s equaliser with 20 minutes remaining brought Sean Joyce’s side back to life before a double from Ben Seymour completed the comeback and put the cherry on top.

The game was less than a minute old when Milton gave the visitors the lead, albeit via a wicked deflection.

Max Parker-Emmerson got round the back of the Bideford back line before playing the ball to Milton’s feet. The forward turned and fired a shot which struck James Mayne on the shin and looped up over Steve Oliver and into the goal.

It put Slimbridge right on the front foot. They hassled and harried the Robins throughout the first period and stopped the home side from getting into any sort of rhythm.

The closest Bideford did come was seven minutes before half-time, when Sean Downing drew a save from goalkeeper Oliver Hall with a driven free-kick from 20 yards.

Joyce made his changes early in the second half, with Connor Clifford and Liam Gregory – making his debut after signing from Tiverton Town days earlier – coming on for Billy Tucker and Ben Wood. Five minutes later Downing made way for Kevin Squire.

Two of those substitutes were instrumental in getting the equalising goal 10 minutes later.

Gregory, playing as a winger, found enough space to put a cross in from the left with his right foot. Squire met it at the near post to flick on before Turner leapt to put his headed effort back across Hall and into the goal.

The equaliser was an adrenaline shot for the Robins, who began laying siege to the Slimbridge goal in search of a second. Squire had a shot from eight yards well saved by Hall two minutes later.

They got themselves in front with 10 minutes remaining. This time Turner was the provider, breaking into the Slimbridge half and weathering a challenge from Adam Mace before laying the ball to Seymour.

The Exeter City loanee took the ball into the box, and almost looked like he’d missed his opportunity before finding an extra foot of space and sending a shot into the far corner.

Gregory and Seymour both went close for the Robins before the latter wrapped up victory in stoppage time, getting in behind the Slimbridge defence and beating Hall one-on-one with a curled effort into the corner.
