Two goals from Ben Seymour helped Bideford to another Evo-Stik League South West point on Saturday.

The Exeter City loanee scored both of the Robins’ goals in a 2-2 draw with Shortwood United at the Sports Ground.

Seymour converted a penalty with 12 minutes remaining, adding to a first-half strike to get Bideford back on terms.

Conceding early goals has become a bad habit for Bideford at the Sports Ground of late, and on Saturday they went 2-0 down in the first 25 minutes thanks to a James Mayne own goal and a Nicholas Humphreys finish.

For manager Sean Joyce, conceding early goals is a trait they need to get rid of fast.

“It’s a common trait at home, and we’re going to get caught out one day when we won’t be able to come back,” he said.

“Obviously we don’t set out to do that but for some reason we are slow starting and we’re giving silly goals away.

“The first goal on Saturday was comical – you wouldn’t expect to see it at Victoria Park.

“Then they have their only shot at goal and it goes in, so they have one shot and we go in 2-1 down.

“We had a couple of really good chances just before half-time and I think if we had gone in 2-2 at half time we would have been alright.

“They sat so deep in the second half that it was difficult to break them down, and it’s hard to create chances when they’ve got 11 behind the ball, but we stuck at it.

“Against other teams it’s felt like points earned, but I’m not so sure about this one, it’s a common trait we’ve got to stop.

“Two goals should have been good enough to win us the game at home.”

The draw and results elsewhere mean the Robins move down to fifth in League South West, but have games in hand on Bristol Manor Farm, Wimborne Town and AFC Totton above them.

The Robins are at home again on Saturday, this time with Yate Town visiting the Sports Ground.

After sitting out the game against Shortwood due to a one-match ban, Billy Tucker will be available for the League South West match.

Despite the draw on Saturday, the postive for Joyce is his side are regularly finding the net.

“The pleasing thing is we have got goals in us, and we haven’t had that in a long time,” he said.

“Now we are scoring goals we’re having to score three to win the game, because we’re giving them away from individual mistakes.

“We’ve got to learn and we’ve got to learn quickly.”
