Hitchin Town 3-2 Bideford
BIDEFORD are still without a point in the Calor Southern League premier after a third defeat in a row at Hitchin Town on Saturday.
The Robins were still reeling from a 6-2 thumping at Cirencester on Tuesday night, but came out fighting at the weekend as Sean Downing put them in front.
But it was downhill from there for the remainder of the first half, as Hitchin’s Brett Donnelly fired them level.
The home side then got their noses in front when Johnny McNamara raced clear to finish past Lloyd Irish.
A Nick Milton error was then punished as Donnelly again found the target to make it 3-1 before the interval.
Bideford again came out brightly, Milton pulling a goal back with 20 minutes to play, but could not do enough to pick up their first point of the new campaign.
The Robins may feel hard done by, having given a good performance on the back of a tricky first week of fixtures, but will have to wait until the weekend for their next opportunity to get points on the board.
Bideford should have been entertaining Weymouth on Tuesday night, but that game was called off due to a problem with the floodlights at the Sports Ground.
The problem is currently being investigated and the club hope to resolve the issue as soon as possible. The fixture against Weymouth will be rearranged for a date to suit both sides.
