Torridgeside punish Braunton in scintillating first half display.

TORRIDGESIDE went on a 25-minute first-half goal blitz as Braunton slipped to their first home league defeat of the season.

Marc Bettiss scored twice, one from open play and the other from the spot as Braunton failed to get a hold on the match at Lobb Field.

Robb Holland and Jamie Bright netted either side of the Bettiss efforts.

Torrie manager Barry Paine said: “For a 25-minute period we absolutely blitzed them and killed off the game really.

“All the goals were good team goals and I was impressed with our wing play.”

With leaders Bideford Reserves away to Appledore Reserves in the re-scheduled Brayford Cup first round tie, Boca Seniors closed the gap to two points with a 4-1 win at Georgeham and Croyde.

Mark Gilfillan scored two and Scott Sharpe and Jack Jenkins were also on the score sheet for Boca, while Tommy Herd added the consolation for the Hammers.

North Molton also sit on 19 points following a 5-1 win at Ilfracombe Town Reserves.

Jamie Giffard opened the scoring for the Stags after 15 minutes before Greg Holland doubled the advantage.

Andrew Alexander had a goal disallowed before Liam Craze saw the visitors go in three goals to the good at the break.

Holland added a second after the restart and despite Colin Woodcock finding the net for the Bluebirds, made it 5-1 through Tom Marsh.

Manager Mark Kersey said: “We played some nice football and kept the ball well. We’ve got players coming back from injury now so that will make a big difference to the team.”

Barnstaple AAC manager Danny Rigler said his side was fortunate to take all three points against a young visiting Dolton side.

The Rangers took the lead after 30 minutes through Tom Robinson before Oliver Rigler won and converted a penalty before the break for the Ammies.

Ricky Marinaro fired in from the edge of the box to make it 2-1 for the hosts but Dolton equalised through Billy Tubb with 20 minutes to go.

Marinaro committed what his manager called ‘daylight robbery’ when he capitalised on a defensive error to coolly slot home with barely a minute to go.

Rigler said: “If I was the opposing manager I would’ve been bitterly disappointed with a point, let alone a defeat.

“We were off our game and Dolton took the initiative, controlling possession and territory for the entire 90 minutes.”

Shamwickshire Rovers took a little under a minute to get going in the match at home to Chittlehampton.

Man-of-the-match Adam Halling was first on the score sheet followed by Sam Schiller 20 minutes later.

Andy Allen made it 3-0 to Shammy in the game’s second half.

Putford got one over on Shebbear United at the third time of asking this season. After losing previous encounters in the league and cup, three Jamie Ashton goals were enough to claim all three points for the visiting side.

James Vanstone and Martin Davey found the net for Shebbear, who despite enjoying the lion’s share of possession, were unable to find and equaliser.

In the Brayford Cup, 10-men Bideford Reserves made it though to round two after a 2-1 extra-time win at Appledore Reserves.

The Fishermen took the lead four minutes before the break but the Robins were handed a late lifeline when the unfortunate Rob Avery deflected a Will Nicholls shot into his own net.

Bideford got off to the perfect start in the opening period when Phil Kelly hooked Rick Williams’ floated cross into the net.

Bideford will travel to North Molton in round two.
