Barum may have lost their second consecutive game, but manager Barry Yeo said he was pleased with his side’s attitude and commitment

Barnstaple Town suffered their second consecutive defeat in the Southern League on Saturday.

Barum were beaten 1-0 by promotion hopefuls Evesham United.

Ashley Edenborough’s close-range finish two minutes into the second half was the difference between the sides.

Manager Barry Yeo said he was pleased with his side’s attitude, especially after last week’s 4-1 defeat to Salisbury.

“The way we responded after the second half against Salisbury was good,” said Yeo.

“We might have lost the game, which was disappointing, but our attitude and commitment was there.

“I’m not going to lie, they are a very, very good side.

“But we went about our job in the right manner.

“We were unfortunate not to get a penalty, which was a stone wall penalty, and decisions like that change games.

“I’ve got no qualms about the result, but there were just a couple of big decisions that cost us.”

The home side had the ball in the net after 13 minutes, but were denied the lead by the linesman’s flag.

Liam Gregory had Barum’s best chance of the half after 30 minutes, but his shot was blocked.

Evesham, who occupy the final play-off spot as things stand, took the lead shortly after the break.

Adam Mann forayed into the penalty area before finding a cross for Edenborough, who tapped the ball home.

Five minutes later Barnstaple had the ball in the net themselves, but James Blake’s effort was ruled offside.

Barnstaple are back at Mill Road on Saturday, where they welcome Didcot Town.

Didcot’s first win in 11 games came on Saturday, with a 1-0 win over Slimbridge.

On Tuesday, Barum travel to Paulton Rovers for a rearranged fixture.

While Barnstaple’s survival in Division One South and West doesn’t appear to be at threat, points from either game could make them mathmatically safe from the drop.
