Club announced earlier on Monday that it had parted company with their chairman, but Crossley labels situation ‘a joke’

BARNSTAPLE Town Football Club chairman Warren Crossley has told the Gazette he has no intention of leaving his post, despite the club’s committee asking him to do so.

Earlier today (Monday) the club released a statement which said that it was with regret that they had parted company with Mr Crossley, who took over in 2012.

But Mr Crossley told the Gazette he had been asked to leave but refused to do so, and labelled the situation ‘a joke’.

In a statement on the club’s website, he added: “As it currently stands, I remain the chairman of Barnstaple Town Football Club as the recent meeting, arranged without prior knowledge and without the attendance of some committee members, was farcical, unjust, defamatory and, as a result, not recognised.

“As chairman I would be foolish to continue to invest any more time or energy or ask for the continuing financial support of sponsors without having control of the club.”

Club committee member Lorna Childs said the club’s committee had given a vote of no confidence in Mr Crossley at a meeting last week, which he was unable to attend.

“We’re looking at inviting an interim chairman, not currently on the committee, to take that position until we can sort something out more long term,” she said.

“Fans and Supporters should rest assured that manager Barry Yeo and the committee of Barnstaple Town Football Club Ltd are committed to continue to move the club onwards and upwards with confidence for the future. Any actions taken have only been in the best interests of the club.”
