Ashton and Backwell United 1-2 Barnstaple Town
BARNSTAPLE Town extended their unbeaten run to seven games with a 2-1 win at Ashton and Backwell on Saturday.
Town won the first meeting between the two sides by two goals to nil at Mill Road, and were good value for the three points again this time around, which see them climb to fifth in the Toolstation Western League First division.
Town went in front in the first half when top scorer Billy Tucker headed in a Lee Francis cross.
The lead was then doubled before half time, with Dave Pearse, fresh from his stunning strike last weekend, neatly finishing after a well-weighted pass from Tucker.
Barnstaple looked comfortable after that, but did let the clean sheet slip when the home side got one back on the counter attack in the second period.
But ultimately, Barry Yeo’s side did enough to pick up the three points and continue to climb back towards the top of the league.
Barnstaple are now up to fifth, and still have a number of games in hand on the teams above them.
They host 18th placed Cheddar at Mill Road on Tuesday night.
