Barnstaple Town 3-3 Cheddar

BARNSTAPLE Town fought back from three goals down to earn a point against Cheddar on Tuesday night.

Barnstaple’s seven game unbeaten record looked to be under serious threat as they went three goals down in the first half at Mill Road.

A Ricky Bennett penalty put the visitors in front, before further strikes from Adam Jones and Lewis Matthews gave them a comfortable three goal margin.

Town hadn’t got going, but a goal from Mitch Cisneros before half time gave them renewed hope heading into the second half.

After a much better start to the second half, Billy Tucker netted to get the score back to 2-3 – and prove that Town were far from done.

The home side continued to apply pressure, with manager Barry Yeo making three attacking substitutions in a bid to salvage a point.

And in the 86th minute, the gamble paid off as Scott Sharp popped up to make it 3-3.

Although Barnstaple went into the game with 18th-placed Cheddar as big favourites, the draw from 3-0 down will feel like a win ahead of another home game against Chippenham on Saturday.

Barnstaple are now sixth in the Toolstation Western League first division having gone eight matches without defeat, and still have a handful of games in hand on the teams directly above them as they push for promotion.
