Town FC and SAS Youth in partnership to help bring young players through.
BARNSTAPLE Town is teaming up with SAS Youth Football Club to help bring on young players and enable them to make the step to the adult game.
The partnership will see the two clubs working together to produce an under 18s team of combined Town and SAS players to take part in the new under 18s North Devon Youth League proposed for next season.
The coaching team from the Western League will also be working with the young SAS players, while the U13-16 teams will get to play some of their games under the flood lights at its Mill Road ground.
Lee Smith, the new community development office for Barnstaple Town, said the aim was to provide a bridge into adult football.
“In terms of pitches and youth football, it is really difficult to ensure the fixtures are played, but this also gives them the opportunity to play under the lights too,” he said.
“The under 18s will also get to train with the reserves and the first team, training together in a squad system.”
Through a membership card system the SAS players will also be able to get free entry to all Barnstaple home league and cup games.
