Bideford 3-0 Arlesey Town
Bideford picked up their first home win of the new campaign on Saturday, brushing Arlesey Town aside in a 3-0 win.
New striker Matt Wright headed the Robins in front in the 25th minute following a positive start from the home side.
And that start was consolidated 10 minutes later, as Wright again rose highest to head in a Sean Downing delivery.
Wright was impressive throughout the first half at the Sports Ground, and thought he’d scored a first hat-trick for his new club only to see an effort chalked off for a touch-and-go handball.
Arlesey came out strongly in the second half, forcing a good save from Bideford stopper Lloyd Irish in the opening minutes of the half.
But the result was put beyond any doubt moments later when centre back Chris McGrath cracked home a volley from a free-kick to make it 3-0.
Bideford continued to create chances and looked more like the side which finished eighth last season after a difficult start to the new campaign.
It was just their second win of the season, having lost four of their opening five games, but enough to lift them to 19th in the Calor Southern League Premier table.
The Robins go to Chesham United on Saturday, before hosting Frome Town on Tuesday.
