Bideford youngster wins in Aylesbury to set up Delaney re-match

Ricky Dymond is in the form of his life, reaching the semi-finals of the British Youth Championships.

The Bideford ABC boxer beat John Crawley of MK Victors ABC in the quarters in Aylesbury, after taking control from the start and boxing behind a fast jab.

Dymond showed good footwork, picking his opponent off with speedy combinations as Crawley tried to set his feet for the big shots, but couldn’t find them.

Dymond stuck to the game plan, boxing and moving and continually hitting the target with straight punches, stopping Crawley in his tracks with a left cross to bust his nose.

Having taken everything out of Crawley, the Bideford fighter began setting his feet in the last, showing his improving power by pushing Crawley around and hurting him with big shots to the head and body.

Dymond won by a wide unanimous decision - which puts him in the top four in the country. For a place in the final he will have to beat West Ham’s Ellis Delaney, who halted Dymond’s challenge at the same stage of the competition last year.
