Diamonds too strong for clubmates Sapphires

09:50 19 February 2014

This week’s North Devon Netball League review

Titans Neptune moved up into fourth in division one by defeating Blue Oasis in the North Devon Netball League.

Following an injury to their shooter last month, Nicole Lathwell moved to Goal Attack and was outstanding, holding her space and shooting accurately.

Emily Bray read the game well for Blue Oasis but couldn’t shut down Lathwell’s movements to prevent Neptune taking the points.

Carol Anne Diamonds were in impressive form, fresh from their victory over Titans Apollo at the weekend. They faced their club’s second team Carol Anne Sapphires and Samme Brand’s shooting helped them on their way to 60 goals.

Sarah Edwards linked the defence and attack effectively for Sapphires and won some crucial interceptions to keep their spirits high.

Venners Bakery Vipers were a player short but worked tirelessly against Woolacombe Bay Holiday Parks to pick up the points.

Vipers took the early lead but Woolacombe Bay came within one goal in the second quarter. Vipers then stepped up a level, defending through the court and working the ball quickly through to the attacking circle.

Bude Stars and Satellites were both successful in divisions tow and three respectively, with Stars convincingly defeating Carol Anne Rubies.

Nicole Worth demonstrated her versatility, playing a number of different positions during the match, and Marina Ledbetter was once again influential for Rubies.

Satellites had a much closer match with Carol Anne Topaz, but they managed to get ahead early on and hang on to their lead until the final whistle.

A netball workshop for players in Years 9-11 is being held at West Buckland School on Friday (February 21) from 10.00am-3.00pm with Katrina Venner, to raise funds for ‘Get Kids Going.’ Please contact Katrina: for further information.
