Young Judoka beaten by South Brent in county final

Kingsley School Judo Club fighters competed well at this year’s Devon U16 Judo Championships.

The club attended the championships, held in Kingsbridge, with a record 18 Judoka, and claimed the silver medal in the Boys’ Team Competition after coming back from 2-0 down to beat Plymouth in their semi-final.

The deciding victory for Kingsley came from Jamie Steer in the u50kg bout, before Chris Edwards rounded off the win to secure a final place against South Brent.

In the final, a strong South Brent dominated but there was at least a crumb of comfort for Kingsley, who thanks to Mark Wild and Chris Edwards managed to do what no other team could do and won two bouts in the final.

It was a pleasing return to the competition for Kingsley, who missed last year’s event and previously finished fourth.
