Bideford Bridge Rotary Club’s annual event attracts 22 fundraising teams
The Rotary Club of Bideford Bridge’s annual darts marathon once again concluded at the Milky Way last week, with more than £5,000 raised for local causes.
The Rotary Club has been running a darts marathon in the area for the last 14 years, and this year 22 pubs and clubs agreed to raise funds for the local hospices, Northam Lodge and other local causes supported by Rotary.
Teams of six players competed during April for the marathon and the final this year was a double success for the High Bickington pubs, with the main marathon competition won by ‘The Chiefs’ from the Old George and the ‘Lion Cubs’ from the Golden Lion claiming the finals night Challenge Cup.
The Chiefs, who also finished runners-up in the Challenge Cup, scored an impressive 50,311 points in just under two hours and raised a staggering £864.
The ‘Pot Bellies, from Pig-on-the-Hill, won the finals plate.
John Bishop, chairman of Bideford Bridge Rotary club’s fund raising, said: “Whilst it was a tremendous result to raise £5,000 for local charities, we really want to increase this figure even further in future years.
“This competition could manage an entry list of up to 32 pubs and clubs and we would encourage others from across North Devon to enter teams.” Interested teams can contact John on 01271 861370 or firstname.lastname@example.org for more information on next year’s event.
