Date with Old Technicians looms following a 29-16 win over Wessex in the last four.

SOUTH Molton are heading for the Devon Junior Cup final and a date with Old Technicians following a 29-16 win over Wessex in the last four.

Molton already have the Devon One title in the bag and will be going for the double against Techs at Weston Mill in Plymouth on April 26.

Molton started well against Wessex and looked to be in control in the early stages following two unanswered tries.

However, it got tricky later as Molton had two players sent off and finished with 13 on the park.

After going ahead through a penalty from Dom Stoneman they then got their first try of the game, good hands making space for Reece Andrews to score, Stoneman adding an impressive conversion.

Wessex responded with a penalty from Jason Williams but before long Barnaby Newell went over for the home side’s second score.

Williams was again on target with a penalty effort and then the home side had influential No.8 Dan Smith sent to the sin bin.

South Molton then also had Sam Howard sent to the sin bin for a dangerous tackle and no sooner had he returned to the pitch than he was sent off for a similar offence.

Wessex cut the deficit with a further Williams penalty but Courtney Lucas then scored a crucial try, running in from half way.

Smith then became the second South Molton man sent off. Wessex sensed an opportunity but as they pushed forward Lucas intercepted a pass and ran the length of the field to seal the game.

A try from Luke Meldon with a minute to go, which he converted himself, was too little too late for Wessex to get a result.
