TWO North Devon sports clubs and a football official received awards at the 2012 Devon Sports Awards ceremony in Exeter.
Croyde Surf Club were joint winners of the Club of the Year award with Okehampton Hockey Club.
Football referee Brett Huxtable from Torrington took second place in the Official of the Year category and Park Community School, Barnstaple, U14s rugby team were runners-up in the Team of the Year section.
The awards are co-ordinated by Active Devon to acknowledge and reward talented and promising players, teams and providers across the county.
Croyde Surf Club was nominated for its excellent grass roots programme for young members, providing them with a progressive path to competition level.
It has grown to more than 120 members and produced top class athletes, who have been selected as part of the British squad in four junior world championships as well as consistently winning national team championships.
Park School’s rugby team won the North Devon title before going on to become South West champions and Southern Counties non-selective state schools champions. They also reached the last 64 of the national Daily Mail RBS under-15s Cup.
Brett, 27, is knocking on the door of Premier football, last year gaining promotion to level 2B and being the assistant referee at the West Ham v Leicester City match in front of 32,000 fans. He was also in charge of the Ryman Premier League play-off final between Tonbridge and Lowestoft.
The awards ceremony took place at Sandy Park, Exeter, with awards presented by British No 1 woman pistol shooter Gorgs Geikie and England blind football squad member Keryn Seal.
