North Devon are the Stay In Devon North Devon Division 1 champions after winning the title deciding game at rivals Newton Tracey by seven wickets.

Luke Peterson and Luke Ansell both claimed three wicket hauls as Newton were bowled out for 141, only Phil Steward (45) and Rob Gear (20) making much impression with the bat. Peterson then stroked 86 and Dan Bowser 40no to see the Instow men over the finishing line.

Braunton climbed off the bottom with a six wicket win at Bideford. Teenager Alfie Huxtable (3-33) and Alec Hodges (2-35) bowled the home side out for 178. Matt Allin (43), Ian Hayter (43) and James Ford (21) were the principle run scorers for Bideford. An unbeaten 67 from Tom Mitcham and 45 from Ian Roberts saw Braunton to victory.

Three teams are still in the scrap to avoid the one drop spot with Braunton, Bideford and Barnstaple and Pilton separated by less than a single point’s average.

Holsworthy lost their final Division 3 game by five wickets at home to Sandford II. But they are still guaranteed second place.

Ilfracombe’s Division 4 promotion hopes were ended with a 55-run defeat by North Devon III. Richard Clark struck 124 while Bob Heaman (23) and Tom Stanton (22) also chipped in as North Devon closed on 231-4. Simon Pomeroy (3-21) and Sam Meadowcroft (3-34) then combined to bowl Combe out for 176, Rob Holmes (34) their top scorer.

Heathcoat II lost their final gameto a strong Filleigh II outfit. The victory for the visitors means they will pip the Mid Devon men to the divisional title if they win their final game at home to North Devon III.

In Division 5, Dulverton ended their first season in the league with another triumph, but face a nervous wait to see if they will be promoted. Lee Hooper hit 90 to guide them to a seven wicket home win over Newton Tracey II. Julian Moore top scored with 49 in Newton’s 164-5, which was passed for the loss of just three wickets.

Dulverton and Bishop Nympton share top spot in, but Nympton take the title, having won more games. Dulverton must wait to see if Barnstaple and Pilton II remain in a relegation slot in the division above, as they would not be relegated, because they already have a team in the basement division.
