PUBLISHED: 14:44 22 August 2017

Braunton edged closer to safety with a win, and Barnstaple moved closer to a return to the C Division East

Braunton beat visiting Clyst Hydon by seven wickets to stay out of the relegation places a week longer.

It’s neck and neck for the third relegation place with Braunton and Clyst St George level on points. Braunton have won one more game, which is enough to keep them out of the bottom three.

Mark Ashplant made the top score of 48 in Hydon’s total of 153 all out. Clinton Lewis made 29 and no one else got past 18.

Mike Brown (4-29) got into the lower order after Callum Mitchell (2-21) and Simon Murfet (2-14) got into the top six.

Jon Baglow (43) and Alec Hodges (30) wiped out 79 of the total then Murfet made 35 to see Braunton over the line with seven overs to spare.

Braunton are away to champs elect Cullompton this Saturday.

The big game in the survival stakes is on the last day of the seaon when Clyst St George visit Braunton.

Kentisbeare came a cropper against D East leaders Barnstaple & Pilton, who turned them over by eight wickets.

Kents were all out for 128 with three overs to go – Josh Farley (21) and Richard Norman (24) having the only scores of note.

The wickets were shared with James Lake, Steve Moore, Jack Moore, Robin Lake and Brady Saunders taking two each.

A second-wicket stand of 83 between Andy Barton (35) and Jack Moore (61no) killed the game as a contest.

Barnstaple (259pts) are at home to Honiton (254) this Saturday as the two-horse race with Chardstock for the D East title looks like going down to the last round of games.
