Braunton stay bottom
17:27 03 July 2012
It’s looking bleak for Braunton, who remain at the foot of the Division 1 table with just four games remaining after a five wicket defeat at home to title chasing North Devon.
Ian Roberts hit 51 as the home side were bowled out for 131. Luke Ansell (3-22) and Tim Cook (3-20) were the principle wicket takers.
Peter Blyth then hit an unbeaten 44 and Jamie Overton chipped in with 35 as the Instow men sailed home with five wickets and 14 overs to spare.
Daniel Bracher bagged a brace for Braunton, who have only matches left at Filleigh, at home to Sandford and September games at Bideford and Hatherleigh to preserve their top flight status.
Hatherleigh still sport a perfect 20 points average record. However, they had their week 12 match at Barnstaple and Pilton washed out by rain. It’s the sixth time in eight outings that Hatherleigh have been denied by the weather!” For Barum it was a fourth match lost to the elements and they remain in what looks to be a three-way battle to avoid the drop with Braunton and Bideford.
Newton Tracey and Sandford swapped places after Newton won by three wickets at Creedy Park.
It was a thrilling contest that went the distance, with the win eventually confirmed in the penultimate over. Ben Clement (74) and George Greed (34) led the home side to 191. John Whormsley claimed 5-28 for the visitors and then struck 43 in the successful run chase in which Richard Screech led with a splendid 64. Kieran Vinnicombe was the most successful home bowler with 2-18.
The top two in Division Two both maintained their 100 per cent records.
Halberton were 26 run winners at home to Victoria Park. Greg Maher struck a superb unbeaten 109 and the next best was the 20 hit by Tom Sambrook as Halberton closed on 187-89.
Giles Bashford took 4-25 for Victoria Park, who were then restricted to 161-9, led by Ricky Kelly with 36. Nick Dean sent down his nine overs, taking 1-15, while Jeremy Turner claimed 2-40.
Shebbear played only their second game of the season – they had had five of their first six washed out - and went down by five wickets at Heathcoat.
They were bowled out for 114, Guy Clatworthy making a four wicket haul for the Knightshayes side. A half century from Pete Randerson then saw Heathcoat to a comfortable victory and they remain joint top with Halberton.
Incorrigibles chalked up a huge 215 run win at Lynton and Lynmouth where they scored 237-7 and then skittled the home side out inside 13 overs for just 22!
Andy Crossman (56) and Will Denford (48) led the Witheridge batting. Skipper Nick Bowen claimed 3-27 in eight overs for the hosts. Matt Faulkner’s three was the highest Lynton offering with the bat and the last six batsmen had ducks to their names. Ryan Bowden (3-2) and Aussie Ben Slaviero (3-1) were the main wicket takers for the winners.
Holsworthy remain out in front in Division Three after they recorded a fifth win in as many outings, beating visiting Bideford II by 100 runs.
Ryan Walter dished up the match-winning all-round contribution. Walter (90) and Matt Marks (58) led the hosts to 203-5. James Greenleaf took 4-41 for Bideford. Bideford were then bowled out for 103, with Walter claiming 3-14 and Robert Mitchell 4-27 while John Weeks led the batting with an unbeaten half century.
Belstone climbed into third place with their third win of the campaign, netting a six wicket success at North Devon II.
Matt Curtner-Smith top scored with 39 and Edward Mann chipped in with 21 as the Instow side closed on 165-7. Scott Tremaine took 2-39 for Belstone and helped out in the run chase with 30, while Phil Woods top scored with 44 as Belstone, aided by 33 extras, sailed home. Gareth Carder bagged a brace of wickets for the home side.

Lee Cockwill (4-17) and Brendon Hughes (4-19) took the bulk of the wickets for Petrockstowe, who were then led to victory by Lee Cockwill (28) and Steve Cox (24).
Bishop Nympton won the Division Five top-of-the-table clash and also became the first team to inflict defeat on Newton Tracey II, beating them by 161 runs on their own patch.
