BIDEFORD Cricket club’s Rose Ball has been selected as a reserve for the England women’s development programme (EWDP) U15 ‘Super 3s’ summer competition.
Rose received the good news in an email from Clare Conner, head of England Women’s Cricket and a former Ashes-winning England captain in her playing days.
The EWDP week will run from Monday, July 28-Friday, August 1 at Wellington College in Berkshire, including two 40-over matches, two T20 matches and a series of classroom-based sessions.
The competition will see 39 players involved, plus a fourth team in the Junior Sapphires U16 girls’ team taking part.
More than 60,000 women are now playing cricket in England, with 600 clubs offering the game to women and girls – up from just 90 clubs 10 years ago – making Rose’s inclusion all the more impressive.
Proud dad Mike said: “We are obviously thrilled she has come so close to getting into the actual squad and it is a great incentive for her for the rest of the season.”
