Bideford won their Division Three match against Holsworthy by 145 runs in the Hayes North Devon Cricket League

Oliver Hannam and Jack Ford gave Bideford the best start to the season in Division Three of the North Devon Cricket League.

The pair opened and saw out the club’s innings at Westward Ho! with a 293 partnership.

Hannam, 15, put on 196 over the 40 overs, with 13-year-old Ford adding 84.

The pair’s partnership was a club record, as well as one for the division.

Holsworthy fell short of Bideford’s total, and were all out for 148 in reply, giving Bideford a 145-run victory.

Gareth Davies took four wickets for 10 runs for Bideford.

Bideford chairman Rod Hannam said: “These two lads have come all the way through our colts setup and to put in a performance like this on the opening day of the season is fantastic.”

Hannam and Ford are products of Bideford’s colts progamme, which starts up on Friday.

Boys and girls from the age of seven to 16 are welcome at the session, which starts at 6pm at the club’s ground on Westward Ho! seafront.

All abilities are welcome, and the first coaching session is free.
