U12s beat West Buckland counterparts to claim Graham Harris Cup

BIDEFORD U12s are the Graham Harris Cup champions after a convincing final win over West Buckland School.

Bideford have enjoyed remarkable success in this competition in the past, winning it in 2011 and 2012 and finishing as runners-up in 2010 and 2013.

Batting first on a beautiful evening at Instow, Bideford posted a daunting 103 for five off their 20 overs, despite some tidy bowling from the West Buckland attack.

Matt Parkhouse played a decisive innings for Bideford, retiring on 25 not out after smashing a towering six over midwicket.

He was well supported by captain Ollie Hannam, who added 18 with the bat. Jack Ford and Rose Ball also reached double figures.

Ball then ripped into the West Buckland top order, as two wickets in her second over left them reeling at 5-2 off three overs.

Nine-year-old Cameron Ford batted well for Buckland, racking up 12 at the top of the innings.

Bideford’s bowling unit kept it tight throughout, limiting Buckland’s reply to 73-6 – 30 runs short of their target.

After the match, captain Ollie Hannam received the cup and all of the players collected their winners medals on a fine day for local cricket.

Bideford’s colts section has thrived in recent years, with a great deal of success in each of the North Devon youth leagues. Traniing with the club takes place every Wednesday at 6pm at Westward Ho!

16 of the players involved have represented North Devon at district level, with eight clubs in the local area all looking for new talent.
